Jessica Lane, a 21-year-old environmental advocate from Queensland, is set to take the stage at the Miss Earth Australia 2024 competition. She brings with her a deep-rooted passion for environmental sustainability. With a background steeped in nature and a commitment to driving positive change, Jessica is poised to make an impact on this year’s pageant.

Jessica’s journey into environmental advocacy began early, influenced by her upbringing in Victoria. Growing up surrounded by nature, she was inspired by her artistic and literary grandparents, who nurtured her creativity and respect for the environment. Her parents played a pivotal role in shaping her awareness, with her father’s dolphin and seal swim experiences sparking a love for marine life and her mother’s emphasis on ethical awareness highlighting the dangers of unsustainable practices.

At just 11 years old, Jessica took her first steps into activism by volunteering with the Body Shop at Australia Zoo to campaign against animal testing. By 15, she was back at the zoo, this time working directly with animals and their handlers, further cementing her commitment to protecting the planet.

Currently studying Journalism, Creative Writing, and Publishing, Jessica aims to use the power of storytelling to inspire widespread environmental change. Her academic journey has brought to light the significant ecological impact of fast fashion, a revelation that led her to become a model and advocate for sustainable fashion practices. Through her work, Jessica demonstrates that sustainability can be both practical and beautiful, using her platform to promote the merits of slow fashion.

Jessica’s pageantry experience began with her participation in Miss World Australia 2023, where she earned a spot in the national finals. This experience not only honed her skills in advocacy and public speaking but also ignited a deep passion for the stage. Now, as a Miss Earth Australia 2024 National Finalist, Jessica is driven by her lifelong commitment to environmental change. She aims to embody the Australian spirit, highlighting the profound connection between the country’s people, land, and wildlife.
