Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega Lead a Hilarious Ride in ‘Death of a Unicorn’ – New Trailer Released

A fresh trailer for the upcoming black comedy Death of a Unicorn has just dropped, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega as a quirky father-daughter duo who find themselves in an increasingly bizarre situation. Set to premiere at SXSW next week on Saturday 8 March, the film marks the directorial debut of writer Alex Scharfman.

In Death of a Unicorn, Rudd plays Elliot, a father on a drive to his billionaire boss’ estate with his daughter Riley (Ortega). Their journey takes a darkly comedic turn when they accidentally hit and kill a unicorn, setting off a series of events that spiral out of control. Desperate to keep their accident hidden from the other guests at the estate, they soon realise that the unicorn’s blood and horn hold miraculous curative properties – an aspect that their boss, played by Richard E. Grant, is eager to exploit.

Alongside Rudd and Ortega, the film boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Téa Leoni, Will Poulter, Anthony Carrigan, Sunita Mani, and Jessica Hynes. Each actor brings their unique flair to the film, which blends dark humour with elements of fantasy and absurdity.

The plot of Death of a Unicorn revolves around the father-daughter duo’s efforts to keep their lethal secret under wraps while navigating a strange and unpredictable situation. As they discover the magical properties of the unicorn, the film delves into themes of greed, family dynamics, and the lengths people will go to for personal gain.

Set for release in Australian cinemas on 11 April, Death of a Unicorn promises to be a hilarious, offbeat ride, combining sharp wit, heartwarming moments, and a touch of the fantastical. With Scharfman’s directorial debut, it’s one to watch this coming April.
