Male Model of the Month for April 2013!

It’s not every day that a fitting room encounter turns into a modeling career! But that’s exactly how Nick Walker, StarCentral Magazine’s Male Model of the Month for May 2013 restarted his modeling career! Nick had already had been a child model when the opportunity arose to take it up again when he was approached while trying on clothes at a department store. The then 18-year old gratefully accepted the offer and hasn’t looked back since.

That was 8 years ago and a lot has happened to Nick in those intervening years – both in modeling and outside of the industry. Currently represented by the Platform modeling agency, Nick has successfully marketed his unique Eurasian look (he is part Japanese/German/Australian) and has added a few notable achievements to his modeling portfolio, including being the face of the international campaign for the Samsung Galaxy Tab; being one of the featured models for Envisage Menswear’s latest collection – “Illuminated”; channeled James Dean’s “Rebel Without a Cause” for an editorial for Men’s Style Magazine and has most recently, sashayed down the runway for the Asia Pacific Show at the Mercedes Benz Sydney Fashion Week. He has even met former Miss Universe, Jennifer Hawkins! “…I love the confidence it has given me and also the creativity involved with being a model, being a canvas for designer fashion, which is then bought to life by the way we pose and bring the fashion to life…” Not only has Nick been a model, but he has been an actor as well. He has appeared in a few short films, music videos, TV commercials and was an extra for Hugh Jackman’s upcoming film, ‘The Wolverine’.

The above accomplishments would already have satisfied many others but this 26-year old has attained far more. Having been a sportsman all his life, Nick has successfully combined his life on the athletic field with that of his modeling. In 2010, he launched his own sports apparel line called ‘LANE 5IVE’. Not only that, Nick is also a member of the University of Technology, Sydney’s North Athletics Club and being a nationally ranked track and field athlete in the 3000m steeplechase, he has recently qualified for the Oceania Games which will be held in Tahiti in June this year. He is also in the process of completing his post-graduate degree in Secondary Education at the University of Technology, Sydney (he had completed a Bachelor Degree in Design where his final year project won a major award for conceptual excellence).

Hard work. Discipline. Talent. Unwavering self-belief and the full support of family and friends have combined to make Nick into the success that he is. He hopes to continue in the modeling world, run his sports apparel business alongside being a high school teacher. And just to top it off, he’ll fit in qualifying for either (or both!) the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland next year and the Olympic Games in Rio in 2016. With all that he’s achieved so far, this is one young man who might just conquer it all.
