StarCentral Magazine recently caught up with Savannah to discuss her journey in the entertainment industry and here’s what went down:

How did you get started in the music industry? How were you actually ‘discovered’?

I’ve been singing ever since I could talk! I started writing and singing when I was super little, but started taking it more seriously when I turned 10 and traveled to Nashville for the first time. I was so inspired by the culture of music in the city. I’m so honored to live here now after being signed to CAA at age 16!

What do you like most about singing?

Being able to release music that I’ve created is the most amazing feeling. I love the process of writing and production. I also love being on stage and being able to share my experiences with the audience. Having a supporter come up to me and say “you inspired me to start singing” or “your song is my favorite” is an incredible feeling! I’m always so honored to experience those moments.

Can you tell us about your single If You Can?

I wrote “If You Can” in LA with Grammy award-winning producer Andrew Lane. It talks about a whirlwind relationship and falling in love quickly. It’s definitely more pop than anything I’ve released in the past and it was really cool to explore that side of my sound as an artist. I think it’s my favorite of all the music I’ve released so far and I hope that listeners can relate!

What sort of person is going to love this single?

If you love a driving pop beat that makes you want to dance, you’d love “If You Can.” It also talks about a whirlwind relationship, so if you’ve ever fallen for someone fast, you’ll be able to relate to the story.

What inspires you to be creative?

When I’m writing music, I love to think about my own experiences and try to put them into words. This definitely helps me feel creative when I’m stuck. I also make sure to write down any random pieces of inspiration that I notice or think of throughout the day in my notes app! I have so many potential song titles written down to use when I’m feeling inspired.

Is there anything special that you do to get into a creative mindset?

I feel like I try to live in a creative mindset! I’m constantly looking for inspiration around me and trying to learn from others.

What message, if any, do you try to put into your work?

I love using my platform to encourage others to follow their dreams. I believe that anyone can achieve anything with hard work.

Do you ever find yourself unable to express your creativity to the fullest? What kinds of things inhibit you?

I think all creative people experience phases of creativity blocks! These are totally normal and can actually be beneficial. I always find that if I’m stuck in a rut with writing music and can’t find the right sound for a few days, I write my best when it’s over.

Who is your greatest influence?

I have so many! I’m inspired by my mom every day. I also have a ton of musical influences. I grew up listening to Taylor Swift, and I love the newer country and pop artists like Kelsea Ballerini, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, and Cam.

Do you feel that you chose your “passion,” or did it choose you?

I think it definitely chose me! I think I was born with a passion for music. Most of my childhood memories involve singing to music in some form. I‘m super lucky that I’ve been able to chase that dream from such a young age.

If you hadn’t chosen your field, what would your alternate field have been?

I’ve actually never had a plan B for my life! I’ve been so lucky to be able to do what I love every day. I’ve definitely loved recently leaning more into social media with the quarantine, so that’s been really cool to explore more of!

The ‘LIGHTNING FAST’ Round:

1. Last good movie I’ve seen: “Dear John” on Netflix. The main character is named Savannah! It’s a great romance.

2. What do you consider beautiful and why? My hometown! Nashville lights up so beautifully at night. I love exploring the city and appreciating its art, music, and beauty.

3. What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could? It’s a big dream of mine to tour the world sharing my music. I can’t wait for the day this comes.

4. Complete this sentence: “If I had no fear, I’d…” try wearing orange lipstick or going skydiving!

5. What is the one “flaw” you wouldn’t change about yourself? I think that I’m not the best at being on time for things. I’m definitely working on it, but I think it encompasses my upbeat personality. I’m always rushing to the next activity and have a ton of things going on. I love staying busy!
