Fashionista Of The Month For August 2017: Tamala Clarice

Some people are just born to do, or be, something. That is certainly the case for Tamala Clarice Greene, StarCentral Magazine’s Fashionista of the Month for August 2017. Tamala shares that “I never just threw on a t-shirt and jeans. I always contemplated on whether a particular blouse went with a certain print purse or a particular pair of pants…” That attention to detail hinted to Tamala that fashion might just be more than a passing interest.

While in college (she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Marketing at Jackson State University), the 25-year old was being regularly sought for fashion advice. This was the impetus for Tamala to take the next step and transform, what was at that point just a hobby, into a career. She was accepted into the Academy of Art University in San Francisco and soon after, transferred to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. While in school, she reveals that she was “blessed with the opportunity to intern with well-respected celebrity stylists…” Stylists like Jessica Paster (who has styled Hollywood stars Emily Blunt, Miranda Kerr and Chrissy Teigen) and style curator, Eric “E Burns” Burns (whose clients include singers, Christina Milian and K.Michele). Following her graduation, Tamala became an assistant to Shateria Moragne-el, CEO of Front Row Couture, a high end urban streetwear label.

While Tamala is passionate and endlessly fascinated by fashion’s many moods and facets, what she enjoys most about style and fashion, she confesses “is influencing others on my fashion forward journey.” To this end, she shares her styling adventures through her blog, ‘TamalaClarice’. There, she exhibits her own style platform of daring and head-turning ensembles. Beyond her blog, the Jackson, Mississippi-born and bred fashionista has worked with artists such as American rapper and record producer, Hopsin, rapper/DJ, DJ Genius as well as up and coming actor, Gojko Lojpur.

Tamala’s success in her career has afforded her memorable experiences such as being able to travel to New York and Miami but it has not been an easy road to that success. She shares that, unfortunately, she has had to learn to “never put too much trust in one person or one thing…” But her failures have served to fuel the fire within her to garner even more success – “my failures in life inspire me to continue following my dreams. Every downfall motivates me to keep going because I know that it’s going to pay off in the end…”
