Meet The Winners And Grinners At The 2018 Made In The West Film Festival

The 2018 Made In The West Film Festival has come and gone and boy, was it memorable!

The Made In The West Film Festival team received over 50 submissions this year from filmmakers across Western Sydney, and according to them, the quality and variety of content have been the best they’ve ever seen. Over 300 enthusiastic attendees attended the festival last Saturday night and StarCentral magazine is proud to be a media partner of the event.

Each film was nominated for at least one individual category award based on the judges’ recommendations and these awards were announced throughout the festival last night. Below are this year’s winners:

BEST DIRECTOR – Hawanatu Bangura for Afro Sistahs

Winner of a one day TV studio hire at Sydney Prop Specialists’ huge Studio 4 (value $1100), with adjacent green room and kitchen.

BEST SCREENPLAY – Bina Bhattacharya for Musings

Winner of a one-year mentorship package with writer and producer Peter Millynn, including one initial face-to-face script consultation and up to three follow up sessions (in person or via Skype).

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHER – Dane Howell for Melon Grab

Winner of a Zhiyun Tech gimbal (value $1000), thanks to Rah Sharma on YouTube and Nighthawk Productions.

BEST EDITOR – Joey Hunter for Culture Strong

Winner of a one-week studio hire in Information & Cultural Exchange’s Video Editing Suite (value $1000).

BEST SOUND DESIGN – Peter PJ Johnson for After Nightfall

Winner of a one-week studio hire in Information & Cultural Exchange’s Sound Recording Studio (value $1000).

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE – Anisha Thomas for Three Feet Deep

BEST ACTRESS – Megan Kennedy for How To Write A Screenplay
