UMR/Island Records is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of “Back To Black: Songs from the Original Motion Picture,” a compilation album that follows the highly anticipated opening of Sam Taylor-Johnson’s film BACK TO BLACK, based on the life of the legendary Amy Winehouse. The album is set to be released on May 17, 2024, and will be available in various formats including vinyl, CD, and digital platforms.
Amy Winehouse, recognized as one of the greatest artists of our time, continues to captivate audiences worldwide with her unparalleled talent and raw honesty. The compilation features a standard twelve-song set, including three original recordings from Amy’s debut album, “Frank,” as well as three tracks from her multi-award-winning masterpiece, “Back To Black.” Additionally, the album includes a new track, ‘Song for Amy,’ sung by Nick Cave, paying tribute to the iconic artist’s legacy.
The film’s score, composed and recorded by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, complements the narrative, capturing the essence of Amy Winehouse’s extraordinary life and career. “Back To Black: Songs from the Original Motion Picture” also includes five songs from artists who inspired Amy, such as The Shangri-Las, Billie Holiday, Minnie Riperton, Dinah Washington, and Sarah Vaughan, whose voices play significant roles in key moments throughout the film.
Directed by acclaimed filmmaker and visual artist Sam Taylor-Johnson, BACK TO BLACK chronicles Amy Winehouse’s personal and professional journey in London, portraying her rise to fame and the impact of her unparalleled talent. Starring breakout star Marisa Abela as Amy Winehouse, the film also features performances by BAFTA-winning actor Jack O’Connell, Eddie Marsan, Juliet Cowan, and Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville.
“Back To Black: Songs from the Original Motion Picture” celebrates Amy Winehouse’s genius, creativity, and authenticity, showcasing her legacy as a once-in-a-generation talent. The album will be available on 140g black vinyl, limited edition peach-colored vinyl (D2C exclusive), double vinyl, single CD, and double CD formats, each accompanied by printed inner sleeves featuring a personal note from Sam Taylor-Johnson. Additionally, the 2LP and 2CD formats will feature stunning behind-the-scenes black and white photographs captured by Sam Taylor-Johnson during the making of the film.
Digital versions of both standard and deluxe products will coincide with the Australian cinema release of BACK TO BLACK on April 11, 2024.
