Female Model of the Month for September 2013!

At the age of 12, Amy was instantly mesmerised by the television show Search for a Supermodel – It was then that StarCentral’s Female Model for the Month for September 2013, Amy Rita, immediately knew she wanted a career in modelling. Slowly building up her portfolio, she began applying for promotional model work as well as photoshoots and catwalk events.

“It’s all very exciting in the beginning.”

The 24-year-old Melbournian hails from an Irish and Indian background and has dreams of becoming an internationally published model. With plans to travel to Los Angeles and New York, she is trying to garner as much field experience as she can in the glamour and promotional industry. She is aiming high because she wants to taker her career to the next level.

Amy said she thought that the modelling industry would be different to what she first experienced. She initially just wanted to be a catwalk model and she actually believed that she would always just be held up in hair and makeup for four hours prepping for a fashion show; however, she was slightly surprised when she found out that this was not the case.

“After attending my first few promotional modelling events, I loved it! Promotional modelling lead me down another path which included: amazing events, meeting celebrities, networking with others within the industry, making lifelong friends and of course, having A LOT of fun on the job.”

But Amy doesn’t deny the challenges modelling holds and acknowledges the importance of staying strong when times gets tough though.

“There are thousands of women across Australia who are in the same shoes as you, sometimes you get picked for roles and sometimes you don’t. It is important to set yourself new goals and stay determined.”

While, like any job, there can be lows, there are  also great highs.

“The best thing about promotional modelling is meeting new friends, being able to do a job that you absolutely love and experience events which you would not normally attend.”

She also admits that, at times, it can be painful.

“The downside is you can’t always last eight hours in high heels!”

Through a balanced diet, going to the gym and walking her dogs, the leggy brunette is able to maintain a slim and fit physique. And when she isn’t working out or posing for the camera, Amy can be found hidden away, studying to complete her Diploma in Nursing, or out and about catching up with girlfriends over cocktails, dining out with her boyfriend or spending quality time with her much loved family.
