Unique and Unconventional: ‘Humanist Vampire’ Strikes a Chord as a Must-See Romantasy of 2024

Pivot Pictures is excited to announce the nationwide cinema release of the uniquely charming coming-of-age dramedy, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person, hitting screens exclusively on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

Directed by the acclaimed Ariane Louis-Seize, this delightfully dark and playful genre-blending film recently clinched the Best Director award at Giornate Degli Autori – Mostra de Venice, 2023, adding to its impressive list of nominations and wins from film festivals worldwide. Rapidly gaining cult-favorite status, the movie has captured the hearts of both fans and critics alike.

The story unfolds with Sasha, a sensitive young vampire who rejects the idea of killing to survive, unable even to draw her fangs. When her parents cut off her blood supply in frustration, Sasha’s life hangs in the balance. Enter Paul, a lonely teenager seeking his place in the world, willing to aid in saving her. Together, they embark on a whirlwind of adventures before daybreak.

Director Ariane Louis-Seize reflects on the film, stating, “As creatures doomed to kill to survive, vampires carry death within them. But what happens if they start thinking too much about the value of the lives they take compared to their own? It is by asking this ethical, philosophical, and potentially tragicomic question that the character of Sasha, a young humanist vampire ready to let herself die to spare others, was born.”

“What touches me above all is the characters’ search for identity. Our teenage years leave a rich footprint on our lives. That’s when we test our limits and those of others; when we question everything,” she continues. “To imagine that vampires also have daily problems, that women have to manage a significant mental load, that children sometimes refuse to leave the family nest and cling to their comfort. These dynamics needed to exist in the lives of vampires too.”

With sumptuous visuals, a stylish soundtrack, and darkly funny humor, Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person promises to be a romantasy that tenderly captures hearts, destined to become a favorite with its many darkly tinged delights.
