Cinematic Brilliance Unleashed: Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode Star in ‘Freud’s Last Session’—A Must-See Release on April 18!

Sharmill Films and Jump Street Films have officially unveiled the release date for “Freud’s Last Session,” slated to hit screens across Australia on April 18, 2024. Under the direction of Matt Brown, acclaimed for “The Man Who Knew Infinity,” the film stars Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins from “The Father” and Emmy nominee Matthew Goode of “The Crown” and “Downton Abbey” fame. “Freud’s Last Session” unfolds against the backdrop of World War II, portraying a riveting encounter between two iconic minds of the 20th century – the father of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud (Hopkins), and renowned children’s author C.S. Lewis (Goode). Their personal battle delves into profound questions surrounding the existence of God, the fate of humanity, and the intricate relationships that molded them.

Crafted by Mark St. Germain, who adapts his own off-Broadway success, “Freud’s Last Session” intricately weaves together the lives of Freud and Lewis, seamlessly navigating between past, present, and fantasy. Director Matt Brown’s cinematic adaptation breaks the confines of Freud’s study, propelling the characters on a dynamic journey across the streets of London.

Expressing his perspective, Director Matt Brown shared, “Beyond my own intellectual curiosity and inclination towards this piece as the son of a psychiatrist, there is a deep recognition of how incredibly timely and important this film is. We live in an age that is so ideologically polarised, where everyone is stuck in their own tribes, with no real dialogue, no intellectual curiosity. I want to make a film for all audiences that can be emotional, thought-provoking and creative. A film that can ask the big questions, while investigating what’s at the heart of all human condition: love, faith and mortality.”

The powerhouse performances of Academy Award® winner Anthony Hopkins and Emmy nominee Matthew Goode have been hailed as “sterling” by Deadline. The film also features a stellar cast, including Liv Lisa Fries, Jodi Balfour, Stephen Campbell Moore, Jeremy Northam, and Orla Brady.

Mark your calendars as “Freud’s Last Session” is set to captivate audiences in cinemas starting April 18, 2024.
