It’s back — and it’s more absurd than ever. Paramount Pictures has officially dropped the teaser trailer and poster for the most important Naked Gun movie since the other Naked Gun movies. That’s right, The Naked Gun is returning to the big screen with a riotous reboot, headlined by none other than Liam Neeson as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the iconic and hilariously incompetent detective made famous by Leslie Nielsen.
Directed by Saturday Night Live alum Akiva Schaffer (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping) and produced by comedy mastermind Seth MacFarlane (Ted, Family Guy), the film promises to deliver the same slapstick chaos and laugh-out-loud moments that made the original franchise a comedic cult classic.
In this new chapter, Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. steps up to lead Police Squad and, naturally, save the world in the most ridiculously unqualified way possible. Alongside Neeson, the film boasts an eclectic and exciting cast including Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, WWE star Cody Rhodes, internet sensation Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston.
The creative team behind the madness includes executive producers Daniel M. Stillman, Akiva Schaffer, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary. The film is penned by Dan Gregor, Doug Mand, and Akiva Schaffer — all bringing a fresh, yet nostalgically silly tone to the beloved franchise.
A Paramount Pictures release in association with Domain Entertainment and Fuzzy Door Productions, The Naked Gun is poised to bring a new generation of fans into the fold while paying homage to the original’s legendary humour and genre-bending style.
Whether it’s mistaken identities, outrageous car chases, or falling pianos, you can expect Neeson to stumble through it all with the deadpan brilliance only he can deliver.
Stay tuned for more updates on the film’s official release date and rating — and in the meantime, enjoy the teaser trailer that proves one thing: Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. may not be the hero we asked for… but he’s the only one we’ve got.
