Paramount Pictures has just released the official trailer for “The Running Man,” a high-octane sci-fi thriller directed by acclaimed filmmaker Edgar Wright, and set to hit Australian cinemas on 6 November.
In association with Domain Entertainment, this Kinberg Genre / Complete Fiction production brings a fresh, adrenaline-charged take on the cult classic originally based on the novel by Stephen King.
Set in a not-so-distant future, The Running Man follows Ben Richards (played by Glen Powell), a working-class father desperate to save his terminally ill daughter. Pushed to the edge, Ben agrees to participate in the nation’s most popular—and most lethal—TV show, The Running Man. The rules? Survive 30 days while being hunted by elite assassins, with every moment streamed to a bloodthirsty audience. Each passing day brings greater risks, higher rewards, and growing public obsession.
What begins as a last resort quickly turns into a revolution. Ben’s natural instincts, resilience, and raw courage transform him into an unlikely national hero, posing a major threat to the show’s manipulative producer Dan Killian (Josh Brolin) and the very system fuelling society’s violent addiction to spectacle.
The star-studded cast includes William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Colman Domingo, with Josh Brolin in a chilling turn as the man behind the cameras. The film promises a mix of heart-pounding action, social commentary, and edge-of-your-seat suspense—all with Edgar Wright’s signature style and vision.
Produced by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Edgar Wright, and executive produced by George Linder, James Biddle, Rachael Prior, Audrey Chon, Pete Chiappetta, Anthony Tittanegro, and Andrew Lary, this latest reimagining of The Running Man taps into timely questions about entertainment, surveillance, and societal control.
The screenplay, penned by Michael Bacall and Edgar Wright, offers a gripping narrative that speaks to both fans of the original and a new generation raised on reality television and viral fame.
Don’t miss your chance to run the gauntlet—The Running Man premieres in Australian cinemas on 6 November.
