He’s been The One, he’s been John Wick… now Keanu Reeves is taking on the afterlife in a whole new way. The first trailer for Good Fortune has landed, and it finds Reeves spreading his wings — literally — as Gabriel, an angel with the best intentions and absolutely no idea what he’s doing.

Aziz Ansari (pulling triple duty as star, writer, and director) plays a down-on-his-luck gig worker whose path collides with Seth Rogen’s loaded venture capitalist, all thanks to Gabriel’s meddling. What follows is a divine mess of crossed wires, life lessons, and comedic chaos.

Rounding out the cast are Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh, promising plenty of sharp comedic beats alongside the celestial slapstick. It’s based on a novel by Ansari, Anthony Katagas, and Alan Yang — so expect the kind of whip-smart dialogue and offbeat heart that fans of Master Of None will recognise instantly.

With Reeves bringing unexpected goofiness to his otherworldly role, and Ansari crafting a high-concept comedy with an indie-soul edge, Good Fortune looks like it could be this year’s quirkiest crowd-pleaser.

Mark your calendars: the film touches down in Australian cinemas on October 16.
