After more than two decades, the franchise that redefined parody films is making a triumphant return. Scary Movie is back, and this time, nothing in modern horror is off limits.

Presented by Paramount Pictures in association with Miramax, the latest instalment reunites the iconic cast members who helped make the original films a global phenomenon. Marlon Wayans returns as Shorty, Shawn Wayans reprises his role as Ray, while Anna Faris and Regina Hall are back as fan-favourite characters Cindy and Brenda.

Set 26 years after the original group escaped a suspiciously familiar masked killer, the Core Four find themselves once again caught in the middle of a horror-filled nightmare. However, this isn’t just another slasher story. The new Scary Movie takes aim at virtually every trend that has dominated Hollywood in recent years, including reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, spin-offs, elevated horror films and the seemingly endless stream of “final chapters” that somehow never end.

The film promises to deliver the outrageous humour, over-the-top gags and fearless satire that made the franchise a cultural sensation. Long-time fans can expect plenty of references to modern horror favourites, while newcomers will be treated to a fast-paced comedy that refuses to take anything seriously.

Behind the scenes, the project marks a major reunion for the Wayans family, with Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez collaborating on the screenplay. The film is directed by Michael Tiddes, who has previously worked with Marlon Wayans on several successful comedy projects.

Joining the returning cast are familiar faces, including Kenan Thompson, Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Kim Wayans, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott, alongside a new generation of performers bringing fresh energy to the franchise.

At a time when Hollywood is filled with nostalgia-driven projects and legacy sequels, Scary Movie appears ready to poke fun at the very industry trends that inspired its return. The film’s tagline suggests that no horror franchise, no movie trope, and no sacred cow will escape its sharp comedic blade.

For audiences craving a break from traditional horror films, Scary Movie offers the perfect mix of scares, laughs, and unapologetic satire. With the Wayans brothers back at the helm, fans can expect a hilarious celebration of everything they love — and love to hate — about modern horror cinema.

Scary Movie is now showing in cinemas.
