Meet EDM Magician…’GROOVY STAR’!!

Michael Featherstone, aka Groovy Star, has certainly perfected that working and weaving of electronic dance beats into music that leaves one’s body no choice but to groove with it!

While Michael’s performance beginnings may have been humble (“…I first performed on stage many years ago at a local theatre called the Kings Hall. It’s situated in a small town called ilkley, a friendly place visited by many people from far and wide…”), his current successes has ensured him that he has gone far beyond that.  But for the 35-year old, sometimes his most memorable performances “…come from just playing away in the studio to a few close friends. It’s often a good test for new material and you’ll always get an honest opinion…”  Don’t get him wrong though!  Getting an audience moving is one of the things that drive Groovy Star to excellence!  “…If you can see a few heads moving to the sound of the beat then I can’t help but smile. Focusing on your ability to put on a successful performance gives a real sense of enjoyment!”

January 2009 saw UK-based Groovy Star introduced to the music world when his first concept album, ‘Constant Orbit’ was released.  “…BBC radio was one of the first stations to play my music and many thanks go to Tom Robinson for that….”  Before long, his music garnered the attention of Alli Sports, an online adventure sports brand and shop frequented by some of the biggest names in Motocross, snowboarding, BMX riding, skateboarding, etc.   The brand has used Groovy Star’s music as the background score for some of those same sports stars’ videos!  His music has also been used in a 3-minute film called ‘Synthetic World’ that was entered in the Philips Parallel Lines Contest in LA.

With already a glowing résumé behind him, what else is there for Groovy Star?  A lot, as it turns out!  “…The plan now is to finish the big DJ club friendly tracks that I’ve been working hard on this year…there’s elements of trance and house in there and I’m really looking forward to releasing them very soon…”

Looks like we’ll be on that dance floor, movin’ to Groovy Star in the future!

‘LIGHTNING FAST’ Round:

What haven’t you done yet that you wish you could?

I’d really like to work with a top class vocalist at some point, that would be cool.

Favourite place in the world and why?

One of my favourites is Kitzbuhel in Austria, it has some amazing mountain views and a large number of things to do.

The 5 things you can’t live without?

As a music producer I couldn’t live without the studio and all that musical equipment.
Secondly I couldn’t live without variety, there’s always something new to discover.
Thirdly, meeting up with close friends and family.
Fourthly, Colour
And last of all “GROOVY STAR”

Complete this sentence: “I’m a sucker for…” and tell us why.

I’m a sucker for taking risks, why – because you’re born to do it !!!

Your best way to combat nerves….

The best way to combat nerves is to slow down and concentrate.
