Robin Givhan, the fashion editor for The Washington Post explained why in one sentence: “pretty is very general, and general is easily forgotten.” Robin explained in detail why models do not have to be pretty. In fact, being pretty will work against you because it’s a bit boring. If you want to get into high fashion modeling then you’d need to have a unique characteristic or something totally unique about you that will make you stand out.
