A new film revolving around an important weekend in Princess Diana’s life has found its leading lady in the form of an actress from the Twilight Saga series – and the choice has been raising a lot of eyebrows.
According to Deadline, Kristen Stewart has just landed the lead role of the Princess of Wales in the new movie Spencer, the title of which, refers to Lady Diana’s surname before she was married to Prince Charles.
Deadline further confirmed that the upcoming film will revolve around a crucial weekend in the early ‘90s, when Diana felt that her rocky marriage to Prince Charles wasn’t working anymore, so she needed to move away from a path that would place her in line to be a queen one day. The plot of the film takes place over three days, in one of Lady Di’s final Christmas holidays in the House of Windsor in Norfolk, England.
The film will be produced by Pablo Larraín Matte, a Chilean filmmaker who has directed seven feature films and co-directed one television series, including the Academy Award-nominated films No (2012) and Jackie (2016).
When asked why Larraín decided to produce the movie, he said: It’s a great universal story that can reach millions and millions of people, and that’s what we want to do. We want to make a movie that goes wide, connects with a worldwide audience that is interested in such a fascinating life.”
In relation to why they chose Kristen Stewart to play the role of Lady Di, he said: “I’ve seen movies from Kristen that are so diverse it’s incredible, showing different layers and her diversity and strength as an actress… We’re very happy to have her, she’s very committed. As a filmmaker, when you have someone who can hold such a weight, dramatic and narrative weight just with her eyes, then you have the strong lead who can deliver what we are looking for.”
Shooting the film is expected to commence in early 2021. To read more about this story, visit this link: Deadline
