Despicable Me is an animated movie about a man, Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell), who wants to be the “World’s Greatest Villain”, by stealing the moon. With the help of his partner, Dr. Nefario, and his multitude crew of mischievous yellow minions, Gru, plotted for the most outrageous crime of the century. They have invented ray guns that can freeze people; tiny chocolate chip cookie-robots; vehicles that can drill through the earth and can drive through the streets; and missile-equipped flying machines.
To steal the moon, Gru needs the shrink ray of a younger thief Vector who was able to steal the pyramids of Egypt and replace with inflatable ones without the guards noticing it. Gru and his gang schemes and tries entering Vector’s mansion to no avail. Vector’s addiction for chocolate chip cookies gives Gru the idea on how to enter Vector’s lair: by swapping the three little girls’ cookies with tiny robots disguised as chocolate chip cookies. Gru adopted the three girls, Margo, Edith, and Agnes from the orphanage to sell the cookies to Vector but the girls have other plans for him – they want him to be their father! Now whose scheme do you think wins?
Reviewed as “This Year’s COOLEST Animated Comedy!” ( Jeff Craig, Sixty Second Preview) for being “rousingly funny, heartfelt and imaginative” (Pete Hammond, Boxoffice Magazine) in 2010, Despicable Me, was able to entertain audiences of all ages with the antics of its characters. It was not as challenging or as wondrous as Disney’s or Pixar’s films but it was able to deliver the fun without sacrificing the character development or the story. Despicable is a great family movie that the kids will really enjoy.
