Tough twelve interview with YouTube artist Pat Simeon

1. Tell us your name and something about yourself.

My name is Pat Simeon and I am a 20-year old singer/songwriter from Toronto, Canada. I am currently enrolled in school for Sociology and Psychology – I love staying productive!

2. Give us a brief description of what you have accomplished so far.

Since a year ago when I started to consider music as a possible career for myself, I have participated in many competitions to expand my fan base and to simply show the world what I can do. I competed in Kollaboration Toronto – which is the biggest Asian American stage in the world, and I ended up coming 2nd! I have also won a number of local campus competitions, one of these competitions actually rewarded me with studio time and I’m currently using this studio time to record an EP, a short album, which I plan to release some time at the end of this year. I’ve won a number of other competitions but that’s all I can remember for now.

3. Tell us about your worst habit/habits.

My worst habits would have to be my bad eating and sleeping habits! I can’t seem to sleep early, especially due to the fact that I feel I’m most productive at around 11pm. And unfortunately late night snacks goes along with these late nights and that’s my dilemma. I’ve got to start getting healthy!

4. What was your most embarrassing moment?

I can’t really think of any particular embarrassing moment. I try not to be embarrassed of anything, so I can’t even remember any. The only thing I can think of is maybe those times when I forget my lyrics on stage because I didn’t get to practice my set enough. But then I just try to laugh those off though!

5. We all know that life is short, but why do you think we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

I believe that is because of our innate desire to crave for the things we don’t have. We as humans are just full of curiosities.

6. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world and why?

I believe that one’s actions can affect someone else’s life somehow, some way so I’d like to change how people think, I’d want to program people to think of others rather than think of themselves. I would also love to see how the world would run without money. I haven’t thought of the actual specifics on that, but just out of curiosity I’d like to see how it would all pan out without money.

7. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work do you think would make you rich?

That sounds like an awesome world! Now if happiness was a currency I’d be working as a comedian. I’ve always felt like I can do stand-up comedy, I just haven’t built enough guts to attempt it yet. Maybe one day …..

8. Are you currently doing what you really believe in, or are you just settling for what you are doing?

Yes, I am doing what I believe in. I believe in the importance of education alongside my music, hence I’m currently in my second year of summer school, which means no break since I got to university). I believe that having the ability to handle heavy workloads and responsibilities prepare me for life better than an average person.

9. If the average human life span was just 30 years maximum, how would you live your life differently?

To be honest, I probably would go all out on music instead of going to university. I’d also like to find the love of my life ASAP and immediately have kids as well! This timeline is crazy so I hope that my mom would still be alive to see me get married and have kids. Simply put, in that short life span I want to be able to say that I lived for my passion – which is music and family.

10. To what degree have you actually controlled the course that your life has taken?

I feel as if I’ve been riding momentums and plans that have been prepared for me by the people and the environment that I am surrounded with. I can honestly say that I’ve taken charge of my life by making the necessary choices, but I can’t say that the opportunities in my life have been solely made by me though. People that I love and my passions in life are partially the steering wheel of my life – and I have no problems with that.

11. What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever done in your whole life?

I once attempted to eat 20 chicken wings and a basket of fries! But then I ended up vomiting it all out though – and I still had 3 chicken wings left to go! I know that’s not a lot to other people, but that was too excessive for me. It was horrible …..

12. Choose a movie title for the story of your life and explain why you chose it.

I’d simply call it ‘Pat Simeon’. A movie about my life only deserves to be called by my name. I chose this name because if a movie was to be made about me, I’d make sure that the viewers get a good look inside my mind, my heart, an my life. It would be a comedy drama for sure!
